One Illinois Restaurant Makes New World’s ‘Best Pizzerias’ List
Well, it's safe to say something doesn't quite add up for me with this new list.
Italy-based website, 50 Top Pizza just put out a Guide to the Best Pizzerias in the World and failed to give Illinois joints the love they all deserve.
I was stunned as I thumbed through the list of 100 different pizza joints only to see the Land of Lincoln mentioned one measly time.
Meanwhile, countries like France, England, and Japan were listed multiple times leaving Chicago as the only city in the entire state on the "guide."
Bummer. Maybe we need to send 50 Top Pizza some of the best Illinois pizza we have to offer to make sure we get better consideration for next year's list.
Anyway, I'm sure you're probably wondering what restaurant made the list, so here it goes, Spacca Napoli Pizzeria. Say what?
Besides finding various authentic Italian pizzas in terms of their appearance, aroma and tastiness you can also try fried dishes, pasta, main courses and desserts of the classic tradition combined with the best wine labels of Campania. The dining rooms are welcoming and furnished in warm tones, and the patio is very glamorous. The service is elegant and at the same time informal.
If this is the first you've heard of Spacca Napoli, you're not alone. It's a first for me too.
Wondering if I'm crazy and I missed this restaurant I looked it up on Yelp and found Spacca Napoli currently rated the 19th best spot for pizza in Chicago.
Rated a solid 4.2 out of 5 on Yelp, Alan M. says he loves their pizza adding "This is about as far as you can get from Chicago's famous 'deep dish' pizza. Thin crust, creative toppings. Don't be put off by the weird-sounding names--I haven't had a bad pizza there yet!"
Matea P. said "Spacca Napoli has been named one of the best pizza restaurants in the world, and once I learned this I had to stop by to try it for myself when I had the chance. Would I call this the best pizza I've had? Absolutely not. I am surprised it's been rated one of the best in the USA."
Regardless, this pizza joint shot straight up my need-to-try list. Get some yourself at 1769 West Sunnyside in Chicago.
