People are so down on Illinois, just ask a handful of people which city they think is most miserable and there's a very good chance it's the one in which they're currently residing.

Why those who believe where they live is considered "miserable" and don't move away is for another time.

So while it's probably a good bet to think "It's probably Chicago" you'd be wrong. If you live in the area where this is article is originating from (Rockford), you'd be wrong on that one too.

So while Chicago and Rockford both have their fair share of miserable folks neither of those cities made the list of 50 Most Unhappy Cities In America, Ranked According To U.S. Census Data according to MoneyPail.

The most unhappy city in Illinois is actually Cicero. Ranked as the 11th most miserable city in America, apparently, folks in Cicero don't have much to smile about.

It seems the folks in charge in CIcero seem to be aware of the bad rap too. According to the Town of Cicero website, the push to change appears to be working.

SafeHome named Cicero the 14th safest city among all communities with more than 50,000 people. Joining the town were four other Southwest and West suburban communities, including Des Plaines, sixth place; Tinley Park, eighth place; Oak Lawn, ninth place; and Orland Park; 13th.
