One of America’s ‘Most Outrageous Sandwiches’ is Made in Illinois

Why eat something boring when you can order something truly outrageous?

You know me, when it comes to food, the more insane the better.

That's why I was super excited when I ran across Yelp's 10 of the Most Outrageous Sandwiches for 2023.

Because one of those 10 sandwiches can be had not too far from where I live and the same probably goes for you too.

So when was the last time you made the trek to Niles? You'll need to head there if you want a wild sandwich experience.

It's called the Ultimate Steak Sandwich and it's on the menu at a restaurant called Phoenix Flame.

Coming in at #6 on Yelp's most outrageous sandwich list, they say:

Phoenix Flame’s top seller started out as an 'accident,' says co-owner Yanko Dimchev. When he and his wife, co-owner and chef Margita Sojos, would prepare steak sandwiches for their Latin-Mediterranean fusion food truck in 2016, they always had 3-ounce leftover slabs that were not big enough for a full sandwich. 'Then one day my wife said, ‘I have an idea!' Yanko recalls. 'Now customers say it’s the best steak sandwich they ever had.'

The truly insane thing about this sandwich is what they do to that "leftover slab."

According to the menu, that little rib eye is wrapped in an "American blend cheese" and to the naked eye looks like an ooey gooey pizza puff.

Claudia on Facebook says it's "the best steak sandwich ever" and that she "loved everything."

I hope so, the cost of the Ultimate Steak Sandwich at Phoenix Flame is pretty steep. One of these gloriously cheesy delights will set you back $20.

Besides the steak sandwich, Phoenix Flame is also serving up Cuban Sandwiches and Hot Chicken Sandwiches so there's plenty to choose from.
