Open Letter to Illinois Brides to Be: Bridal Shower Rules Have Changed
Are you tying the knot soon? Planning your friend's bridal shower? Let's talk bridal shower rules, because times have changed.
Listen, if you're getting married, you're allowed to do whatever you want, duh, but I just wanted to fill you in on some bridal shower changes I think we should all be talking about.
While I've never been married, I have been in 9 weddings and that includes being the maid of honor three times. So I have a little experience in the bridal world, especially the bridal shower world, which is why I'm writing you this letter today.

Dear bride-to-be,
Once upon a time, we all attended every bridal shower we were invited to, we physically brought a gift to the party, it was wrapped and we watched the bride-to-be open each and every present and we 'ooo-ed and ahh-ed.' If that's what you want to do for your wedding, more power to you!
However, in the last five years or so, there has been a new trend in bridal showers where the brides don't actually open the gifts at the shower.
I have an issue with this.
The issue is not what you think. I'm totally cool with the bride not wanting to be stared at while she opens 40 presents in front of 40 people.... most of which she registered for and has to be fake surprised to be receiving.

My problem is the fact that those gifts were purchased, wrapped and more importantly carried into the shower and then they were not opened.

If you're not planning to unwrap presents at the shower - just tell everyone in advance! Do you think I wanted to carry a 25 pound box of dishes into your shower just to find out your father-in-law to be was going to load them in his truck after? We all see how dumb that is right?
Just tell everyone you're so excited to mingle but won't be unwrapping the presents and we can directly ship them to your house.
I've had many ideas in my life that aren't great, but this one definitely is.
To you, love me. Happy Wedding Planning!
