Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate after a pedestrian was struck and killed early Tuesday morning on Illinois Route 4 in Madison County.

The Madison County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 24-year-old Tyler Robinson from Marine, Illinois. Authorities say he was walking in the roadway near the intersection of Illinois Routes 4 and 143 around 5:09am when the incident happened.

According to Illinois State Police, someone contacted authorities requesting a welfare check for Robinson after seeing him walking in the roadway during the early morning hours. Several other witnesses reportedly saw him in the area before the crash occurred.

When a state trooper arrived on scene, Robinson was found unresponsive in an embankment near the roadway. Officials said he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later determined evidence showed he had been struck by a vehicle.

Authorities said a vehicle believed to have been involved has since been located. The Madison County Coroner's Office said the driver is fully cooperating with investigators as they work to determine exactly what happened leading to the fatal crash.

At this time, police have not released additional information about the vehicle or whether any charges are expected. The investigation remains ongoing through Illinois State Police and the Madison County Coroner's Office.

The tragic incident serves as another reminder of how dangerous roadways can become during overnight and early morning hours, especially when visibility is low. Officials have not said why Robinson was walking in the roadway at the time of the crash.
