It's not you, Illinois; it's me.

Ok, maybe it is you. You're unforgiving, cold and costing me too much.

If you've been on Facebook lately, I'm sure you've seen hundreds of complaints about the cold, pictures of snow and screen shots of the subzero temperatures.  While I completely understand your frustration, what is it about this time of year that a majority of us are still asking ourselves, "why do we live here?"

According to Allied Van Lines, those of you who can't come up with a good answer to that question, are finally packing your bags and fleeing the state for warmer; more affordable climates.  The annual reports by both United and Allied Van Lines showed that Illinois topped the list of states people are moving away from with 1,372 net moves, followed by:

  • Pennsylvania
  • New York
  • Michigan
  • New Jersey
  • Virginia
  • Maryland
  • Connecticut
  • Ohio
  • Iowa

So where is everyone moving to? South and West. United Van Lines reported that a majority of their clients are moving to Texas, Florida, Arizona, South Carolina and Colorado.

What about you? Do you think it's too cold and expensive to live in Illinois? Are you ready to make a move?
