Illinois residents are split on pumpkin spice — some love the cozy flavor, while others think it’s overrated.

Pumpkin spice season is "unofficially" here in Illinois, whether you've been anticipating its return or not.  The moment school was back in session, apparently that meant it's fall already.

I got on TikTok last week and saw so many people rushing to every coffee shop in Rockford just to get their hands on their favorite pumpkin-spiced drinks.  I do love a good fall drink, but not this early.  Summer hasn't even actually ended yet and we're out here skipping to the next season!

Here's the thing: Apple Orchards are open for the season, cider donuts are filling our backseats, and football games under Friday night lights are back.  All we need now is bonfire weather, full-on sweater weather, and we're good to go!

For some people, all they need is a sip of a fall latte to kick off fall.  Others?  Absolutely over it.  They'll literally roll their eyes if they see even one pumpkin-related thing in stores.  I get it, though.  It seems way too early to be thinking about sweater weather right now when we're trying to hang onto summer just a little while longer.

Why are we rushing the seasons?!  C'mon now.

I guess I'm a little on both sides:  I don't sprint to Starbucks for the latest drops, but I do enjoy a pumpkin spiced latte every once in a while, during the season.  It's just a part of fall you need to experience, but not before fall hits.  If we celebrate too early then we lose the fun in enjoying everything fall has to offer.

So, are you for or against pumpkin spice season coming a little too early in Illinois?
