Rockford Traditions Younger Residents Are Letting Fade Away

Every city has its claim to fame, and Rockford is no exception.  Ask longtime residents what Rockford is known form and you'll probably get a long list of answers.  Some will point to major employers that once dominated the area.  Others will mention local landmarks, historic businesses, community traditions, or moments that help put the city on the map.

But times change.

Things that were one a huge source of pride for Rockford don't always carry the same significance with younger generations.  Many younger residents grew up in a different era, with different interests, experiences, and connections to the city of Rockford.  As a result, some of Rockford's most recognizable claims to fame may not get much attention from younger residents.

The conversations alone revealed how much the city has evolved over the years.  While some things remain significant to many residents, newer generations seem to resonate with much more than just a nostalgic past.  Whether you agree or disagree that we should appreciate that list more, it's really cool to see how a city's identity can shift over time.

I would say most kids these days don't appreciate being connected with the outside world.  Ever since Covid shutdown, times have truly changed the way we interact with one another.  Kids don't go outside as much and the world is a little scarier than it used to be.
