It's easy for folks to get the name of this confused with the big-budget blockbuster from last year, Twister.
Not The Blockbuster You Think It Is
I'm talking about The Twister: Caught in the Storm, a brand new Netflix original documentary that captures the feel of a big-budget blockbuster but settles it in reality because the events covered in the film actually happened.
The description on Netflix says, "The deadly Missouri twister pulled people from cars and picked up houses. Survivors share gripping firsthand footage and stories in this documentary."
The Twister: Filmed Right Here in Illinois
The Champaign County Film Office on Facebook mentioned that scenes for the documentary were partially filmed in Champaign, Rantoul, and Mahomet, and it added indoor and outdoor scenes shot in Champaign County.
Already a Hit on Netflix
This film was the number two flick on Netflix just a few days ago.
A Netflix appearance could pave the road to Oscar gold for a documentary, as the most recent short documentary Academy Award winner, Only Girl in the Orchestra, took home the top prize at this year's ceremony.
So, while scrolling through what to watch on Netflix, slow down. It's not just another tornado movie. This one has Illinois roots, and it's totally worth seeing.
