If you feel like it has been raining forever in Illinois, it really does feel like that.

It seems like every time we get a little break from the rain, we're right back to gray skies, wet roads, and another round of storms.  At this point, I'm pretty sure some of us have forgotten what it's like to make plans without checking the weather first.

So when does the rain finally start to back off?  There's actually a seasonal reason to look forward to the next few months!

When Will the Rain Finally Stop in Illinois? Here’s What to Know

Illinois' wettest stretch is usually May through June, when the state sees some of its heaviest rainfall, often thanks to severe thunderstorms.  So technically, we're already past the traditional peak of the rainy season.

Then comes the drier part of the year.  December through February are generally the driest months for precipitation in Illinois.  During winter, a lot of the rain that does fall comes in form of snow rather than rain.

And there's an interesting difference depending on where you live in the state.  Because Illinois stretches so from north to south, northern Illinois, including the Rockford and Chicago areas, makes the transition from rain to snow earlier than southern Illinois.

So if you're in northern Illinois and you're completely over the rain, there is a seasonal change coming!  Just keep your umbrellas handy a little longer.
