White Sox Just Handed Their Top Pick A Record $10.35 Million

When you pay someone this amount of money to play baseball for your team, they better be pretty darn good.

That's got to be what's running through the front office and fans' heads when they heard the news about the White Sox's #1 pick in this year's draft.

His name is Roch Cholowsky, a standout shortstop who played collegiately at UCLA and has about the most South Side Chicago name ever. It's almost as if he was born to play for the White Sox.

The White Sox sure hope he does more than just play, too, like he needs to be one of the best in the sport and turn around a franchise that has struggled mightily the last few years.

Cholowsky signed with the White Sox, but it's not the contract that's making waves; it's the signing bonus. Cholowsky's signing bonus is a record setter, coming in at $10.35 million. Remember, he has never even set foot inside a batter's box or on the field in a White Sox uniform.

Breaking the Bank: Roch Cholowsky Lands Record-Setting MLB Signing Bonus

That's a major chunk of cash, but I hope he pans out for the White Sox, if anything, because the dude's got an awesome name.

Cholowsky's signing bonus surpassed the previous record of $9.25 million, shared by Cincinnati Reds pitcher Chase Burns, an All-Star this year, and Charlie Condon, who plays for the Colorado Rockies but is still in the minor leagues.

You've got to hand it to the White Sox, though. They wasted no time locking up their top pick, hoping he would become the face of their franchise for years to come.
