Fall is definitely here. The days are shorter, the humidity is gone, the Halloween candy is in your house... and you're probably going to get a cold.

However, there are six things you can do to lessen your chances of coming down with a cold according to Good Housekeeping.

  1. Have a Set Bedtime. If you're one of the lucky people who are able to sleep for eight hours or more every night, you're three times less likely to get a cold.
  2. Eat Your Colors. Make that dinner plate colorful. Red, yellow, green and orange!
  3. Shape Up Your Gut. You might want to take a probiotic supplement to help your stomach ward off bad bacteria during cold and flu season.
  4. Wash at Key Times. Wash your hands before you eat and prep food, and remember to wash after you use the bathroom, touch food or sneeze.
  5. Hug It Out. Hang out with your friends when you're facing problems. People who are supported socially are less likely to get sick.
