The 3 Cars Most Likely to Be Stolen in Illinois Right Now
If you live in Illinois and feel like every other week you're seeing a "stolen vehicle" posted on Facebook or the Nextdoor App, you're not imagining things. A new analysis of motor vehicle theft data just dropped, and it spells out exactly which cars thieves are targeting the most across every state.
This list might hit a little too close to home.

The 3 Cars Most Likely to Be Stolen in Illinois Right Now
According to Compare the Market, the three most stolen vehicles in Illinois are (no surprise here) Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, and Kia Optima. Yep, affordable, reliable, super common cars that you see everywhere, which, unfortunately, makes them an easy target. When a car is popular, parts are easy to resell, and thieves know exactly how to get in and get gone quickly.
Illinois recorded 250 vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents, which ranked us 18th in the nation (tied). Not the worst ranking, but definitely not something to brag about either. It's one of those stats that makes you double-check that your car doors are locked before heading inside... and then check again just to be safe.
What's really wild is looking at where vehicle theft is even worse. Colorado, Washington, and Washington D.C. top the list nationwide, with the highest rates of stolen vehicles in the country. So while Illinois has a car theft problem, there are places where car theft is happening at an even more alarming pace. Still, that doesn't make it feel any better when it's happening in your own driveway or apartment parking lot!
At the end of the day, no one expects their car to disappear overnight... until it does.
