A Popular Illinois Restaurant Has Its Eyes Set on Former Tumbleweeds Location
Remember Tumbleweed in Rockford, Illinois? Yes, it was closed Tumbleweed, singular not plural.
A Blast From The Past
There are two things about Tumbleweed in Rockford that stand out in my memory to this day.
The chips and queso dip...
... and margarita Mondays. Although I'm certain there was another day of the week that had margarita specials too.
Tumbleweed, once located at 5494 E. State Street, officially closed its doors for good back in 2008 and, unfortunately, its restaurant predecessors didn't seem to last very long in the same space.
I'm not an entrepreneur, restaurateur, or business savvy person but, based on trends, it seems like there is something about that location that hasn't worked out well in recent years.
Maybe a restaurant with an established following could pull it off?

There's an already-operating restaurant in Rockford that sees potential in the property, enough to potentially relocate to the above spot.
That is, of course, if Rockford city officials approve a plan in the form of tax incentives.
According to WREX, the city will vote on the aforementioned tax incentive to help this already popular restaurant renovate the space and move from its current location, at 6876 Spring Creek Road.
Mexico Clasico Grill on Spring Creek, not to be confused with the restaurant on Broadway with a similar name, definitely has a chance to break the streak and find success in the old Tumbleweed location.
There is no word yet on a timetable for the potential plan.
