This was my very first time having a run-in with a deer on the road and let me tell you it was quite possibly the scariest moment of my life behind the wheel.
Nothing can really prepare you for the moment a giant, living thing jumps out in front of your car. You either hit it, dodge it, or give it a little love tap that does no harm to you or the animal.

I've driven back and forth to Byron plenty of times at night, and I've only ever seen a deer chillin' on the side of the road. This time, I was driving back from McHenry's outdoor drive-in movie theater around 11pm when a deer appeared in the middle of the road. It was just standing there like it had nowhere else to stand.

It wasn't until the deer appeared about 5 feet from the front of my car that I could see it. Literally a deer in my headlights! As I'm trying to hit my brakes, the deer steps right in front of my car, so I think fast and swerve to the right. Bad idea, but it was a last minute decision.

Deer season is no joke! They're everywhere, give no warning, and make driving kind of scary sometimes. If you're near fields or wooded areas, be very cautious. Deer are super active during the daytime right now, but that doesn't mean they're not roaming the streets at night.
