Say good-bye to your Illinois driver's license that looks like a high school ID, changes are a-coming.

Starting this July, the driver's licenses we have in Illinois are getting revamped.

According to NBC Chicago, Secretary of State, Jesse White's office has created a new license with upgraded security features and a new look. This is for both driver's licenses and state issued ID cards.

Remember a few months ago when we heard that Illinois driver's licenses wouldn't be a secure form of ID for travel purposes? That was a huge factor in the card's redesign. The new licenses will be 84 percent "REAL ID" compliant.

When it's time for you to renew your license, you will not get your new card right away, but instead wait 45 days with a temp card while your info is checked across more platforms than ever before.

It looks like those of us who are not up for renewal in the near future will get to stick with our current IDs until renewal is necessary, but of course keep up with all things driver's license related with the Secretary of State website.
