Times are tough right now, everyone knows that. This COVID-19 pandemic has hit so many Rockford residents and businesses HARD, and for those that were already struggling pre-pandemic, it has made the bottom completely fall out. My point here is this; Rockford's homeless community has increased, and the organizations that service them need our help.

Carpenter's Place in Rockford issued an urgent plea on Facebook Thursday for the Rockford community's help to provide meals for the homeless this May. They have several days open in May, and this is the perfect opportunity for your family, group of friends, organization or business to help fellow community members in need.

According to their website, Carpenter's Place has open Breakfast dates on:

  • Monday,  May 3
  • Tuesday, May 4
  • Monday, May 10
  • Wednesday, May 12
  • Monday, May 17
  • Tuesday, May 25
  • Wednesday, May 26
  • Friday, May 28
  • Monday, May 31

Carpenter's Place has open Lunch dates on:

  • Wednesday, May 5
  • Tuesday, May 11
  • Thursday, May 13
  • Friday, May 28

If you are interested in providing meals on any of these dates, please remember that the meals cannot be homecooked, unless you have a kitchen that was recently inspected and approved by the Winnebago County Health Department. Pre-packaged, store bought, or restaurant-prepared food will be gladly accepted and appreciated.

Each meal needs to be enough to serve 50-60 guests, and dates can be reserved by sending an email to  CPengagement@carpentersplace.org or by calling Patti at 815-964-4105 ext. 216.

If you have weathered the COVID-19 pandemic relatively unscathed, please consider helping others who have not at Carpenter's Place next month.
