Traditionalist Blues: Why Alternate Uniforms Don't Always Hit

Maybe I’m just an old-school fan that way, but I’ve always found myself more of a traditionalist when it comes to my favorite teams' uniforms.

I wonder if it’s the “money grab” aspect that turns me off, or perhaps it’s because I think they are quite ugly.

One thing is for sure: I am never first in line to pick up the alternate jersey when they go on sale for any of my favorite teams, whether it be the Bears, Cubs, Bulls, or Blackhawks.

The Unveiling: Bears Reveal New 'Rivalries' Look for Christmas Day

That said, I wasn't immediately disgusted when I saw the Bears' brand-new Rivalries jerseys that were just released yesterday.

Not bad, and they’re only wearing it for one game, and it’ll be a big one: Christmas Day against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.

Heritage vs. Cash Grab: Nike’s Division-Wide Rivalries Program

The Rivalries program is part of the NFL and Nike’s ongoing partnership, and while it’s a bit different from what Bears fans are used to seeing, it’s not like it’s some bizarre color scheme shoehorned in to make a quick buck.

The idea, though, is to move jerseys, and the NFL will start selling the brand-new Rivalries sets for the Bears and, yes, the Packers, as well as some other teams on September 1.
