City Of Rockford Looking To Restore Water Tower

Fixing up an old water tower in Rockford could be coming in the near future.

I have to be honest. I didn't realize that water towers were still used. I thought they were just landmarks or basically a big billboard for that city. You learn something new every day and apparently they are currently in operation. In fact, the city of Rockford would like to do some updates on one.

According to rrstar.com,

"City water officials plan to proceed this spring with a $1 million rehabilitation of the Riverside Boulevard water tower used to stabilize water pressure across the west side. The 137-foot-tall tower uses sensors to regulate water pressure automatically. It also stores up to 1 million gallons of water that can be used in case of an emergency, shortage or drought."

"The City Council is considering a $999,440 contract with Maxcor Inc. of New Lenox to sandblast the tower built in 1986, recoat the interior with a special epoxy, repaint the exterior, and repair and improve an interior ladder and catwalk system. It will be paid for from money generated by the water utility."
