My family made more trips than I'd like to talk about to Rockford's UIC Health Services Campus in 2020, and I'm guessing your family did too.

Sadly, even though 2020 is now coming to end, the COVID pandemic is far from over. I'm sure we'll all be treated to a few more nasal swabs in 2021, but we will have to go to a different location to get it done for free starting on January 2, 2021.

The Illinois Department of Public Health recently issued a press release that said;

The State operated community-based testing site in Rockford will be moving on Saturday, January 2, 2021 to 1321 Sandy Hollow Road in Rockford. The last day of testing at the University of Illinois Health Services Campus will be on December 31, 2020.

After a Google search to find the exact location, this new free COVID-19 testing site location will be in the parking lot of the former K-Mart on Sandy Hollow Rd.

If you made it through 2020 with having a swab stuck up your nose, that's awesome! I hope your streak continues in 2021, but just in case it doesn't here's a few things to remember about state-funded COVID testing:

  • Testing sites are free and open to everyone, no insurance is required.
  • You do not need to be experiencing symptoms to get tested.
  • You do not need to have a doctor's order or make an appointment to get tested.
  • The testing site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until daily supplies last.

A list of more state-funded COVID testing sites can be found at dph.illinois.gov/testing.
