Beloved Bakeshop in Downtown Rockford Announces Closure

Very unexpected news dropped on Facebook today that has crumbled the hearts of fans all across Rockford.

Crust & Crumbles has announced it will be closing for good at the end of 2026.

For anyone who has stopped in for a fresh pastry, a croissant or loaf of artisan bread, get there while you still can!

Located at 116 N. Madison Street in downtown Rockford, Crust & Crumbles has become a local favorite for so many residents.  They've been part of Rockford's food scene since 2010, when it started as a bread stand during the first season at Rockford City Market, before growing into a full-blown bakery.

What Happened to Crust & Crumbles in Rockford?

JoJo, the owner of Crust & Crumbles, shared the decision to close her bakeshop came after a difficult time for her family.  She lost her brother unexpectedly a few months ago, a loss that strengthened her desire to spend more time with her children and elderly parents, who live halfway across the world.

Although she said she has a strong team at the bakery, JoJo said she doesn't want to choose between supporting her employees and being there for her family.

"My life and my priorities look starkly different now than when I first started C&C. And though it’s not been an easy decision to let go of something that’s still going so strong, I’ve accepted that just as it does in nature, even good things come to an end and that’s okay." [Crust & Crumbles]

Don't worry, though.  You still have time to support her and grab your favorites before they close for good.  The bakery will officially close on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2026.  She noted that the timing aligns with the end of her lease and the bakery has traditionally closed on Christmas Eve each year.

If you've visited before, or are a frequent customer, you know she puts so much craft into her baked goods, loaves of artisan bread, and everything that leaves that kitchen!  I'll miss the cruffins & the fun pizza nights the most, those were my favorite when I used to work downtown!

After so many years serving the community, JoJo is preparing to close this chapter and focus on spending more time with the people closest to her.

We will miss Crust & Crumbles so much!
