Demi Lovato's joke about 21 Savage fell flat on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 3), ultimately resulting in the singer deactivating her account altogether.

The pop star was dragged on Twitter after publishing a since-deleted tweet about being more entertained by the memes regarding 21 Savage's ICE arrest controversy than by the Super Bowl football game itself.

Over the weekend, it was reported that Grammy-nominated rapper 21 Savage, real name Shayaabin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested by ICE officials in Atlanta. ICE claimed the artist was in the United States "illegally," according to CNN. Abraham-Joseph is reportedly a citizen of the United Kingdom.

Lovato, apparently amused by memes that had sprung up in the wake of the shocking news, was promptly dragged by users who felt her comment was offensive and insensitive — including users who brought up her reported 2018 drug overdose.

But Lovato felt her tweet was taken out of context, hitting back, "If you're gonna come at me for making a joke, try coming at me with something original not involving drugs ... This is why I don't tweet anymore."

She also shared one of the memes she had been referencing in her joke:

After clarifying her 21 Savage joke and hitting back at people making fun of her reported drug overdose, Lovato deactivated her entire Twitter account.
