A new school year is quickly approaching. Parents, if you've struggled with your relationships with your kids' teachers, maybe this will help you see why.

Each year we send our kids into a building to become smarter, better humans equipped with the knowledge to take on the world. Teachers spend hundreds of hours educating themselves to be qualified to be in that classroom. But guess what, they're human too and  they get annoyed by the same things you do. Their job to prepare our children for lives of purpose is supposed to be a supplemental thing. And by that I mean, WE NEED TO BE INVOLVED AS WELL. It's not their job to do it all. You might be surprised to know how many teachers are blamed, by the parent of a child who came up short, when all it would've taken was a little parental involvement. But HOW you're involved plays a big role.

Even though teachers will tell you that most parents are great partners in education, we've all probably dabbled a 'foot' in one of these.

From Jessica Bowers, the 1st grade teacher who compiled this list:

My favorite back-to-school ritual as a first-grade teacher is to tenderly place name tags on each of my new student's desks. I think about each child, how I will impact their life, and how they will impact mine over the coming year.

It is the time of year where I am almost giddy with anticipation. While I am thrilled to meet my new students, I am equally nervous about meeting their parents. I am not alone in this sentiment. Teachers I know consistently list students as the best part of teaching and their parents as the worst part of teaching.

Don't get me wrong. The vast majority of the parents in my class are fantastic, but a few archetype parents always show up on my roster every year and secretly make me dream of summer before the year even begins.
