No, ‘Fuller House’ Didn’t Really Want Elizabeth Olsen to Play Michelle
The absence of Michelle seemed not to hamper Netflix’s Fuller House revival, which only made the omission more notable with bizarrely bitter meta-references to the Olsen twins. One surprising story saw John Stamos admitting he’d approached Elizabeth Olsen for the role, but according to Fuller House bosses, a recast Michelle was never in question.
Even as the second season of Fuller House hits Netflix streaming today, new Michelle jokes and all, series creator Jeff Franklin is adamant the successful revival isn’t interested in returning Michelle without either Mary-Kate or Ashley. Despite star and executive producer Stamos reportedly contacting Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen’s agent, Franklin told Business Insider it wouldn’t have tome to that:
It was just an idea that was out there in the wind, We were never going to recast the role … We’ll continue to reach out and let them know the door is open and we’d love to see them. And it’s going to be their call. I respect their wishes. They’re extremely busy and not actors anymore.
Fuller House isn’t yet renewed for Season 3, but fans of the franchise might at least see one old favorite returning for the third season, as Franklin recently bought the San Francisco house that served as exterior in the original series, with an eye toward potentially filming both inside and out.
In the meantime, Fuller House Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
