Nearly Half of Halloween Injuries in Illinois Tied to This Popular Activity
Every Halloween, Illinois transforms into the spookiest state of all. Between the haunted houses, costume parties, yard decorations, and trick-or-treating, there's always something spooky happening around here.
As much as we love this season and holiday, there seem to be lots of injuries that are tied to one thing. No, it's not falling while running away from a chainsaw or tripping because you can't see through your mask! Those are pretty common this time of year, but if you've decided to have a pumpkin carving party, think again.

Nearly Half of Halloween Injuries in Illinois Tied to This Popular Activity
Imagine: a slippery pumpkin, a sharp knife, and a lot of motivation to carve the best-looking pumpkin of everyone in your family. Sounds like a mess waiting to happen.

Apparently, nearly 44% of Halloween-related injuries are from pumpkin carving. Most people rush to carve the best ones, freehand without stabilizing the pumpkin, or give a knife to a kid that's just way too young. All of these can lead to major injuries!

So, before you go diving into your pumpkin, take a few precautions. Slow down. Take your time. Use the proper tools to ensure you don't slice your finger off. If you have kids, let them draw the design and have them watch you carve the pumpkin! Or, skip the knives altogether and just paint the lil guys instead! That sounds less messy anyway. Less to clean up for you, Mom and Dad!
