Here’s Why 250,000 People Flocked To This Small Illinois Town In August
An Illinois town with a population of just 25,000 grew to roughly 250,000 after they hosted a fair that was record-breaking in attendance. Welcome to Belvidere!
Living in Rockford with a population of over 150,000, I don’t ever think about other surrounding cities because, in my mind, we’re all one giant city. How the heck did Belvidere, Illinois fit 250,000 people in one place?! Insane!
If you didn’t check out the Boone County Fair at the Boone County Fairgrounds, you missed out on tons of delicious fried foods, rides, and local vendors. I had a giant corn on the cob, a lemon shake up, and a corn dog that was calling my name.
It must be the year for concerts, fairs, and foodie events because that’s all I’ve been hearing about lately! I’ve never heard people in Rockford talk so much about going to the Boone County Fair or Winnebago County Fair as much as they did in 2024. Something’s definitely in the air – and it’s not Covid that’s for sure!
Seeing so many families get out and about this year makes me so happy. We deserve a little fun coming out of all the isolation we did the past few years.
Now, if only we could bring back On The Waterfront and Young At Heart! At least we still have Stroll on State in Rockford, that’s always a great event in downtown Rockford to look forward to every year. I wonder how many people will attend this year...
