Remember when you were younger and you'd be playing on the playground and a boy would come up to you and pull your hair, punch you in the arm or push you down? You'd go home and cry to your mom over milk and cookies and she would explain to you that the only reason that boy hurt you was because he liked you. While that still may be true, times are changing; and telling our daughters and little girls that boys can hurt you to show affection is sending the wrong message.

Just ask Merritt Smith, an upset mom who recently had to take her daughter to the hospital after being punched in the eye by a boy on the playground. While she was there, a hospital employee said to the little girl, "I bet he likes you." That didn't sit well with Smith so she took to Facebook to share a message to the hospital employee; explaining that it's not acceptable to pass on the idea that violence is an acceptable form of affection.

Her intention was never to get this employee or the hospital in trouble, she just wanted to start a conversation about changing the messages that we send our children about how we love one another. Would you agree with her?
