We all know money actually does buy us happiness. Hello, new shoes, fancy dinners and new cars, but it turns out what state you live in determines at what amount of money the happiness stops accelerating.

The higher the cost of living is in your state, the more money you need before you hit that "happiness benchmark." Here in Illinois, our happiness maxes out $71,625 per year.

Basically, that means every dollar we earn up until that amount makes us happier, but then we get to $71,625, and money no longer makes us happy.

I mean, I'm pretty sure we would all still take more than that, according to the investment group, Advisor Perspectives, it won't benefit our mood if we do.

We are pretty much smack dab in the middle of this "happiness benchmark."
