Open since 1961, one of the last remaining outdoor drive-in movie theaters in Northern Illinois may soon close.

Cascade Drive-In movie theater in West Chicago may have shown it's final movie, and may not open for business in April of 2019.

The reason for the possible sudden closure, has nothing to do with the movie business or the profitability of the outdoor theater. According to a report in the Daily Herald, the possible closure stems from the fact the land the theater sits on may soon be sold to a private developer.

Cascade does not own the land, but they lease the 28 acre site. The lease has expired. The Daily Herald reports:

The Kuhn family owns the drive-in site and adjacent parcels totaling 53 acres, including a hot dog stand and the former headquarters of Harry Kuhn Construction. Stephen Kuhn said he has hired a new real estate broker to sell the site to a developer, ideally all in one piece.

If the land is sold, the theater will not open for business

There only two outdoor drive-in movie theaters in the suburbs. If this one closes, that would leave only the  McHenry Outdoor Theater in McHenry, IL.

Locally, in our area we have two outdoor theaters within a reasonable driving distance
