Illinois Creek Safety Concerns Grow After Multiple Near-Death Experiences
What was supposed to be a relaxing day down at a creek with family quickly became a fight for survival when fast-moving water swept four individuals underwater in Illinois.
A Peoria resident said she and her boyfriend were enjoying, what they thought would be, a beautiful morning when everything changed in an instant. Reagan Behyl was caught in a powerful current and swept underwater.
"I’m going to die, like this is going to be the end of my life," Behyl recalled.

Despite the frightening ordeal, she managed to escape and credits luck, faith, and what she calls a guardian angel for helping her survive.
Later that same day, two other residents were spending the afternoon tubing together along the same creek, Sandy Creek, a popular recreation spot near Lake Wildwood. Shortly after entering the water, they heard the sound of rapids and decided to get out of their tubes and walk along the creek bank. Even with precaution, they ended up bruised, scratched, and struggling to stay safe.
