The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is beginning to stack their plow squad for the upcoming season. They're seasonal gigs with full-time potential.

Did you know that IDOT plows snow and ice on more than 45,000 miles of road every Winter? You need an extra large crew to handle that big of a task. The department is on the hunt for qualified applicants through the 'snowbird' program. The 'snowbird' program is an annual opportunity for temporary plowing jobs where you'll be working full-time on an on-call basis.

Some participants in the 'snowbird' program have become full-time employees. Snowbirds are required to promptly respond to emerging weather situations for snow and ice removal. You need to stay prepared to work in emergency conditions at any time, including nights, weekends and holidays.

If you're interested, you'll need to have a commercial driver’s license. You'll also have to submit to a criminal background check. A pre-employment physical, vision testing, and drug and alcohol screening also are required. Veterans are encouraged to apply.
