The cost of insulin for diabetics has risen so much that some patients consider taking less than prescribed because it's so expensive.

This is exciting news to diabetics throughout the state. I use two types of insulin daily and this is a big deal. The House bill wold cap insulin cost at $100 a month out-of-pocket. The legislation applies to state-regulated commercial insurance companies. Federally regulated insurance plans are not covered, according to wgntv.com.

Governor Pritzker's office cited some data that showed that insulin brands that sold for $40 in 2001 now sell for $289. The Governor supports this bill that heads to the Senate floor next.
