or,

does it mean that the scratch-off ticket hasn't been sold yet, which also means the prize money is 'unclaimed'.

I jumped on the Illinois Lottery website, and during a live chat with customer service, I asked for some distinction on 'unclaimed', and this is the lottery's response:

We have no way of knowing if the prizes have been claimed yet or if they are still out there.

I'm not saying that the live chat lied to me, but it is hard to believe that the Illinois Lottery doesn't know precisely when one of these winning tickets has been sold.

Unclaimed, unpaid, unsold, or otherwise, at least you can see which tickets may be better ones to buy given the size of the jackpots that are still available.
