Is Illinois One Of The Safest States For Online Dating?
If you've ever used dating apps like Tinder or Bumble, you clearly know there are risks when online dating. Right?
When I was in my early 20s (which is crazy to say now that I'm pushing 30...), I used to be all over dating apps like it would elevate my dating experience. It's such a convenient way to date without having to entertain someone in person, but whether it's in-person or online, dating gets exhausting!
Now, I don't dare use dating apps because I feel like I'd get murdered on a date and be on the next episode of Unsolved Mysteries. Nope, no thank you.
So, how safe is it REALLY looking for love online in the state of Illinois?
Illinois ranks 30th on the list of safest states for online dating.
Sure, you could say "well, at least we're not ranked the most dangerous!", but it's concerning for singles out there seeking romance in the digital age.
The state's middling position is primarily attributed to its high number of reported STDs—839.2 per 100,000 people annually.
"Going by the numbers, the safest states for online dating are Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. Would-be lovers face the biggest risks in Nevada, Alaska and Georgia." [privacyjournal]
From romance scams, to catfishes, hatfishes, and people not seriously interested in a relationship, there are so many risks that come with online dating.
