Illinois High School Student Fatally Struck By Metra Train

A Barrington High School student has died after being struck by a Metra train on her way to school Thursday morning.

Barrington High School in Illinois released a statement that 17-year-old Marin Lacson was accidentally struck by a train on Route 59 and Main Street.

She (pictured on the left) was on her way to school at the time of the incident.

"Lacson attempted to cross the train tracks after a train had already passed, and she was hit by a different train coming from the other direction, the coroner's office said." [abc7chicago]

Residents say say fog might have played a major role in the tragedy because it was difficult to navigate even on the roads that Thursday morning.

The Superintendent shared an update on the school's Facebook page.

Marin Lacson was a junior at BHS who was in the Chinese Immersion Program and a member of the Lacrosse team. Prior to attending BHS, Marin attended Countryside Elementary School and Station Middle School. [BHS]

The school has a team available, along with extra counselors, to support any students who need to talk during this difficult time.

According to a Metra spokesperson, she crossed the tracks on the road just north of the Barrington station near Barrington and Hough.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends, classmates, and faculty at Barrington High School at this time.  Friends of Marin hope the city takes action to make it safer for pedestrians to cross over those train tracks in the future.
