Will the Gender Neutral Toy Law come to Illinois in 2024?

According to Newsweek, California has a new Gender Neutral Toy Law that will require stores to have a section of their toy department dedicated to gender-neutral toys. The stores could face large fines for not complying with this law, in the article on Newsweek, they say...
"In 2021, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation, titled Assembly Bill No. 1084, which will require some retail stores in the state to have a gender-neutral section for children "regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys." The bill is set to go into effect on January 1, 2024, and states that stores failing to comply will be "liable for a civil penalty not to exceed $250 for a first violation or $500 for a subsequent violation, as provided.""
The article mentions that certain big brands have pushed back on this bill due to the backlash they could face for complying with the law, citing Bud Light and Target seeing massive backlash in 2023 for similar reasons. To read more about this law click here!
Is Illinois next?
While no legislation currently in the Land of Lincoln mimics this law in California, Illinois has been known to closely follow in the footsteps of states like California and New York. Depending on how the rollout of this law goes in California in 2024 it would not shock me to see the current leadership in Illinois create their version of this law.
Do you think this law is a good idea or not? I don't love it anytime that the government creates a law that forces a business to do something. That feels like overreach, if a company wants to do this on their own that's great, and I'm sure they will have a lot of support for it. But forcing companies to do this doesn't sit well with me.
