I love the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. They've always made home feel like home. For many that aren't fortunate to live near them, scenic cruises provide an opportunity to experience them and one with many Missouri stops was just named one of the prettiest in America.

It's no small thing when you get a national shout out from Reader's Digest. They just named the best American river and small-ship cruises and one paddles right past and to Missouri.

This is the Upper Mississippi American Heartland Theme Cruise which travels from Chicago to Saint Louis and it makes a stop in Hannibal, Missouri, too. It's a mighty majestic vessel.

You might even recognize certain famous authors (or the actor portraying him anyway) along the way if you're lucky.

Further south along the Mississippi River, the Mississippi River Bourbon Theme Cruise also got a mention in this scenic top 10. It's a Memphis to Louisville river ride.

If I ever manage to make it to Maine, their coastal cruise looks epic. Bucket list stuff indeed.

Very nice to see some recognition for one of the many fine riverboats that allow anyone to experience our part of America that wants to. Underrated experiences in my not-so-humble opinion.
