If you need further proof that sometimes dogs really are more intelligent than we are, here's another case. Meet Oakley, a four-year-old American Staffordshire terrier from Aurora who basically helped himself out of a burning home.

Aurora Police Bodycam Footage Released

Aurora Police released bodycam footage from Officer Michael Ely, who arrived on the scene as flames were tearing through the back of Oakley's home. Ely busted through the front door, searched room to room through billowing smoke, and finally found Oakley stuck behind a pet gate.

Oakley’s Clever Escape Through the Smoke

This is where Oakley showed off that he has good pup instincts. Instead of freaking out like most of us would, Oakley hustled down the hallway, looked over his shoulder at Officer Ely with a "You coming, or what?" look, leading the cop through the kitchen to the back door where Oakley's leash hung. Oakley sat and let Ely clip him in before walking through the front door like it was the final performance after weeks of rehearsal.

No Injuries Reported in Aurora Fire

No one was home when the fire started, and thankfully, there were no injuries to report. Apparently, the fire started in the attic of the house. Oakley's owners are glad they got "their sweet dog" back and said they're grateful to Ely for bringing him back.
