Scary moments at a bank in Rockford on Tuesday afternoon (4/16) when a man went in to rob it.

Man Robs Rockford Bank on State Street, Runs Away with Cash

According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers and detectives responded to a bank robbery around 4:21 pm on Tuesday at the U.S. Bank located at 1107 E. State Street.

U.S. Bank employees said that a man walked into the bank and passed a note to a teller demanding money before fleeing the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Suspect of U.S. Bank Robbery in Rockford Identified

Rockford Police Detectives identified the suspect as 33-year-old Curtis Payne of Rockford and were able to aprehend him at Payne's house where they conducted a search warrant of his home and collected additional evidence.

After an investigation, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has charged Curtis Payne with one count of Robbery.

Rockford Police said in the press release that "these charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in the court of law."
