Free Trunk-or-Treats in Rockford

If you plan things carefully, you could hit up a a couple different trunk-or-treats in the Rockford area every weekend, but here are five I'm definitely adding to my family's calendar this month:

1. Screw City Jeeps 815’s Trunk or Treat at Lockwood Park - Sunday, October 5 Noon to 3 p.m. The trunk or treat is free to attend, but make sure you stick around Lockwood Park for all the fun events happening at the farm.

2. Trunk or Treat at Hoo Haven in Durand - Sunday, October 5 from 1 to 3 p.m.
After trunk-or-treating, take a self-guided tour and meet some of Hoo Haven’s rescued critters and have some not-so-spooky fun. Free to attend.

3. Trunk or Treat at Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum - Sunday, October 12 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Kids get candy, and you get to wander the first floor of one of Rockford’s coolest and most haunted museums...all for free!

4. Trunk or Treat at Loves Park Ski Broncs (Shorewood Park) -  Sunday, October 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. Free to attend. Costumes, candy, and a park setting? Yes, please. Bonus: the kids get fresh air while you sneak a mini Snickers.

5. Trunk or Treat at Northeast Family YMCA - Friday, October 24, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at 8451 Orth Rd. in Loves Park. Free to attend. Come for the candy, stay for the indoor games and activities.

Let's grab those buckets, load up the car, and get our money’s worth out of those costumes, moms. Your dentist may not thank you, but your wallet will.
