Constance Lane Elementary School opens just after Labor Day in Rockford's Orchid Neighborhood on Gregory Street.

The $17.7 million elementary school is filled with beautiful natural light and bright, engaging colors and some of the most high tech education equipment, according to mystateline.com.

The school gets its name, Constance Lane, from the first black teacher hired in the Rockford Public School System, in 1954. She taught for over 30 years and lived in the same neighborhood.

There will be a ribbon cutting just before Labor Day weekend and the first day of school is the day after the holiday.
