A Virginia man accidentally recorded his medical procedure and caught his doctors saying the most appalling things about him behind his back.

Imagine that you're about to go through a terrifying medical procedure. You have a lot of questions and you want to make sure that you have all the information and that you've asked the right questions. You decide the best way to make sure you take it all in is to record your doctor explaining the post-op process and your discharge using a voice memo on your phone. Once the instructions have been given and you're ready to put on your hospital gown, you slip the phone in your pants pocket and prepare for surgery. But when you put your phone back in your pocket, you forgot to stop recording. You had no idea.

Hours later, as you're heading home, you decide to play back the instructions from your doctor; that's when you realize you forgot to stop recording and what you hear is completely unprofessional and shocking - your doctors were mocking you during the entire procedure.

Talk about a pain the butt. It's hard enough for anyone to have to go through a colonoscopy procedure, but to be a man going through that experience with a team of doctors led by a female, it has to be even more difficult.

A man who only goes by "D.B." went in for a routine colonoscopy at Dr. Tiffany Ingham's practice in 2013, and ended up learning the hard way what doctors talk about you during medical procedures. The recording revealed statements like:

"After five minutes of talking to you in pre-op, I wanted to punch you in the face and man you up a little bit."

The assistant noted their patient had a rash, and the anesthesiologist warned her not to touch it. "[You might get] some syphilis on your arm or something," the doctor, who also called the patient a "retard," said. "It’s probably tuberculosis in the penis, so you'll be all right."  Oddly enough, the genital area isn't even involved in the colonoscopy procedure.

It didn't stop there. Dr. Ingham signed a post-operative note indicating the plaintiff had hemorrhoids even though he had none.

The plaintiff says in his lawsuit that he experienced mental anguish, anxiety and lack of focus after the incident and sued for defamation, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, violation of Virginia health codes and medical malpractice.  He won, and he won big; Dr. Ingham was ordered to pay him $500,000.

This is why I pray I don't ever need surgery. I'm already scared of the thought of anesthesia but this has definitely been an eye opener. It's scary to think about what  your doctors could be this unprofessional. These are people who are paid good money to ensure that we're safe and comfortable in their environment.

If you're in need of a medical procedure any time soon, beware, your doctors might be talking trash about you behind your back...and if you do record your conversations with your doctor, make sure to turn off the recorder.
