Over the last few years, I don't remember the mosquitoes being as bad as they are this year in Illinois.  Even if I'm in my house they still find a way in.  It's not even about being near water anymore.  Existing is enough of a reason for these little blood-suckin' creatures to attack.

All you gotta do is count how many bites you've been non-stop itching.  Currently, I have one on my left arm, one on each thigh, and one in the most inconvenient spot on my back that I can't reach.  Yay me (not)!

If scratching has become part of your daily routine, that should tell you something.  Get bug spray, some kind of bug repellent, and try every trick in the book.  They all might fail, but at least you've attempted to keep the pests away this summer.
