Rockford, consider this your heads up.  There's a gas station scam going around, and no, it has nothing to do with prices (unfortunately).

Someone shared in the What's Happening in Rockford Facebook group about a man driving a truck who's been approaching people at gas stations asking for money because he's completely out of gas.

"Completely out of gas".

Sounds like a situation most of us would feel bad about, right?

Here's the problem: it's not a one-time thing.

The same person who was spotted at the QT by the casino a couple months ago, and now again at Casey's on Bell School... using the exact same story.  Multiple people in the comments said they've seen this truck around too, which is what really makes it feel like a pattern, not an emergency.

Because let's be real... so many people who will give their last few bucks just to help someone out.  And situations like this take advantage of that kindness.  It also makes people more hesitant to help the next person who ACTUALLY needs it, which is the worst part of all.

Listen, it's a tough world right now.  Everyone's going through something.  But if you're at a gas station and someone approaches you with this story, just be aware.  Helping people is never a bad thing, but unfortunately, not everyone asking is being honest.
