It feels like no matter what we do these days, something is being taxed.

Whether you're getting gas, paying for a subscription to a streaming service, or even breathing, it’s all adding up.  From state taxes to "convenience fees" and everything in between, the list of what gets taxed seems endless.

And the worst part? It’s always the little things that start to feel the heaviest.

Obviously, taxes have gone up as inflation increases.

To cope with this rising tide of taxes, we took it to Facebook to see what Rockfordians think should be off-limits.  Sure, it won't change anything but as least we could find some fun in it!

The results were nothing short of hilarious and totally relatable.

I believe anything that brings me joy and happiness shouldn't be taxed—which is pretty much everything I purchase.  If I buy it, it makes me smile.  So, I'm really saying that nothing should be taxed in this lifetime.  Period!

From essentials like coffee and pizza to more personal freedoms like naps and Wi-Fi, Rockfordians have spoken. They’ve made it clear that some things should simply remain tax-free.  It's all for fun, remember that!

Things That Shouldn’t Be Taxed, According To Rockfordians

  • Social Security
  • Our income
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Property when it's paid off
  • Used vehicles
  • Our money every time we spend it
  • Anything needed to survive
  • Food, food, food
  • Hotel stays
  • Overtime

What's really sad is majority of the comments said "food" as the only thing that shouldn't be taxed.  We could sit here all day and list what shouldn't be taxed, but what SHOULD be taxed?  Really, though.  That's the actual question.
