I’ll be real with you: I had no idea planes blew their tires as much, but apparently it’s been an epidemic recently at O’Hare in Chicago.

This is a strange streak going on here, as an American Airlines flight blew not one but two tires just a couple of days ago while taxiing for departure.

Luckily, no one was injured, but it did make people late for stuff, as all the passengers had to get off the plane, be bused back to the terminal, and eventually be put back on a replacement flight.

Five Incidents in Two Weeks: Inside O’Hare’s Bizarre August Streak

The part that gets me is that this is the third time in a little over a week there’s been a tire incident at O’Hare.

On August 17, two different planes had tire trouble just hours apart. One on a United flight from Omaha while landing, and another American Airlines flight from New York blew out two tires after touching down at O’Hare.

This is just months after another American Airlines flight blew two tires as well while landing in May.

FAA Investigates: Searching for Answers Amid Surging Runway Incidents

There were no injuries in either incident, but the FAA is trying to determine why tires are blowing out left and right.

In case you’re wondering, the estimated average for aircraft tire incidents is less than five per year. If this keeps up, the average will surely change.
