Pier 1 Is Calling it Quits and the Big Sales Start Now
After almost sixty years, the home furnishings retailer is closing all of their 540 stores, And right now, you can score 40% off deals.
During the 1990's, I moved to five different cities for work. For every new apartment, a trip to Pier 1 Imports was a requirement. When I moved to Rockford in 1995, my apartment at Rock River Tower didn't have a room that wasn't filled with items bought at Pier 1.
My love for that store was my mother's doing. It started with a trip to completely redo the kitchen in my childhood home. I don't think I'd ever seen her so happy while shopping. I learned later that it was because she'd saved up quite a bit of money, and that was the only way to get several things at Pier 1. The store has always had a reputation for being a bit pricey. Perhaps that's why they're going out of business.
All 540 remaining (there were 936 at the beginning of the year) Pier 1 Imports stores will be closing and the liquidation sale has already begun online. Once they can reopen after COVID-19 lockdown, I'm sure the sale prices will be even better. The Rockford store is located at Forest Plaza 6325 E State St, Rockford.
For Memorial Day Weekend, all outdoor furniture and wall decor is 40% off. A government supervised auction to sell off all of their assets is scheduled for July 15, according to nypost.com.
