Popular Illinois City Featured on Jeopardy! Only Five Times
Jeopardy! has been on TV for quite a while.
For as long as I can remember the show has been part of my life.
It's one of those shows that, if it's on, I'm watching.
I've considered trying to get on the show only to realize I have absolutely no shot at winning the game.
If I was going to embarrass myself and my family and friends, then yeah sure, I'm in. However, I'm there to win, and again, I don't stand a snowball's chance in hell.
So there I was looking at J! Archive, an entire website devoted to cataloging every single clue, question, and contestant on Jeopardy, when I found something rather interesting.
Since the show debuted way back in 1984 there have only been five clues featuring Rockford.
For a show that has been around for almost 40 years to only have five Rockford clues was kind of a surprise.
The very first Rockford clue is from 1990 under the category U.S. Cities for $600.
This state's second-largest city is Rockford.
If you're reading this in Illinois, I sure hope you know this one.
Six years later, in 1996, the second Rockford clue was announced in Awards for $400.
Rockford College in this state awards outstanding women a medal named for alumna Jane Adams.
Again, you better know this one.
The third is from 2003, and probably another one most people from Rockford should know. From the category "C" in Rock for $600:
It's the rockin' group from Rockford, Illinois heard here.
Without hearing the audio clue, is there any other answer?
The 4th question, from 2007 and in the category Illinois, Iowa, or Indiana for $600 gives this clue...again.
Rockford is its third-largest city.
Technically, it's a new clue, because Rockford's population has declined. Jeopardy! apparently wanted to call out the Forest City.
The last and most recent Jeopardy! clue to feature Rockford was in 2010 in Schools of Rock for $1000.
Jane Addams was one of the first to receive a B.A. degree at Rockford College in this state.
How did you do? Can you imagine how easy the show would be if it was all clues like the ones above? I think I'd totally not embarrass family, friends, or myself.
