Brookfield Zoo is about to completely change the game for animal lovers, especially those who can't get enough of gorillas, orangutans, and monkeys. Starting July 11, you'll be able to explore a brand-new, three-acre outdoor primate paradise.

This new space, called James & Elizabeth Bramsen Tropical Forests, is unlike anything the zoo has offered before.

Walk Through a Rainforest Without Leaving Illinois

Designed to feel like a lush tropical forest, this new habitat lets you come face-to-face with free-roaming primates in ways you've never experienced before. Expect shaded pathways, rich greenery, and animals who are just as curious about you as you are about them.

According to rblandmark.com, your adventure begins through the trunk of a fallen log, where you'll emerge beneath a breathtaking 48-foot waterfall. It's giving full Disney vibes, but with real animals.

Gorilla Strength, Monkey Business & Science You Can Touch

Inside the Gorilla Conservation Center, you can test your strength against a primate in a tug-of-war, observe social behaviors like a field researcher, and learn how scientists ID wild gorillas by... wait for it... the shape of their noses. There's even a life-size bronze sculpture of a real gorilla's nose. (You're officially taking a selfie with that.)

Plus, there's a pollinator garden to explore and plenty of ways to learn how primates and bees keep life buzzing along.

Perfect Day Trip from Rockford? Absolutely

Just 90 minutes from Rockford, this is the summer day trip your kids will never forget, and honestly, neither will you. There's a huge Ferris Wheel, too.
