It's been a good week by-the-numbers for Rockford. We're one of the best places in America for retirement, and The Chicago-Rockford International Airport (RFD) gets a great ranking for cargo airports.

Let's just take a second to applaud ourselves as a city.

We're ranked the 18th best mid-size city in America in which to retire, and our fabulous airport is continuing to build upon its successes.

According to a new study by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) ranks as the 19th largest cargo airport in the nation.

Ranked #22 last year, RFD's growth of 54.8% year-over-year is nothing short of amazing.

In 2018, RFD saw more than 2.1 billion pounds of cargo moving through the airport, over 1.4 billion pounds in 2017.

RFD is home to the second largest UPS hub in North America, and will soon begin additional flights by Amazon Prime and other Amazon carriers.

“We’re excited to see this continued cargo growth at RFD,” said Mike Dunn, RFD Executive Director. “The success of our cargo activity positions our region for additional job opportunities and economic development.”
